According to Islamic dietary laws, seafood, including oysters, is considered halal. Allah says in the Quran: “It is lawful for you to hunt and eat seafood, as a provision for you and for travellers.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah, 5:96).
Additionally, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said about the sea: “Its water is pure and its dead are lawful (halal)” (Malik’s Muwatta).
More specifically, most scholars agree that all types of seafood are permissible to eat without exception, whether caught alive or found dead. This is the view of the Maliki school of thought and those who follow it. However, if there is known harm in consuming certain seafood, it should be avoided, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm” (Malik’s Muwatta).
And Allah knows best.
